Department of Orthodontics

The Department of Orthodontics is situated in the top left wing of the dental school on the Second floor with a Clinical Section, Seminar Room, Laboratory, Computer Section, Photography, Records Room, Post Graduate Students’ room and Offices for the faculty. The Department is well equipped with 30 Dental chairs units and has all the laboratory equipments and materials required for various purposes such as Vacuum Molding Unit, Archmate, Electropolishing device, Hydrosolder, Light curing Units, Welders etc.
The department is the first in the country to have a formal lingual orthodontic training as a part of the postgraduate curriculum. Each Post-Graduate has to compulsorily treat a minimum of 2 lingual orthodontic cases.
In this regard the department has acquired latest equipment, namely the Torque angulation device(TAD) and the Bracket positioning device (BPD) from Thailand, which is the latest machine enabling speedy and accurate indirect bonding of lingual brackets.
The department uses both the latest STB and 7th Generation Ormco lingual brackets.
The department has the latest versions of imaging softwares namely the Dolphin Imaging system as well as Vistadent -procured from the USA, to aid in diagnosis, treatment planning, cepahlometric analysis and treatment prediction.
The department has been a center for MDORCPS(Glasgow) examination in the year 1999. and for IMORTHRCS Examination of the Royal College of Physicians Glasgow and Royal College of London in 2000.
